THROWNZONE / FANTASY FOOTBALL STRATEGY

Fantasy Football Strategy

Winning at ThrownZone takes the same skills as any fantasy football game, plus a few that only a card game rewards. This page collects the strategy that matters most, with links to the full guides.

1. Build around one star, not five

At the Core tier a lineup can hold only one Superstar. In a 20,000-seat field, everyone can play the same obvious names, so the cap is what separates lineups. The winning Core shape is one star plus four value cards, and the fourth-best Superstar you own is worth more than it looks. Read: the Superstar cap →

2. Win the lock

There's no bench and no automatic replacement: if a player is inactive, his card scores zero. You can swap freely until five minutes before kickoff, then nothing moves. Check inactives around 11:30 AM ET for the 1 PM games and again before the late and primetime slates. An inactive announced at 11:58 is worth more than any take. Read: why status news matters most →

3. Pick the right board

  • Weekend (every Sunday and Monday game) is where a small collection can most often field a legal lineup: about 94% of 30-card collections can, versus about 5% for a four-club slate.
  • Free Rolls and Core 5: Any Five cost nothing. Enter them every week.
  • Double Ups pay the top half 1.8×: steadier, lower ceiling. Tournaments pay the top half with a steep curve to first. Winner Takes All is all-or-nothing.

4. Captain the ceiling in Showdown

In a Showdown one card is your Captain at 1.5×, and yardage bonuses are switched off. That means the Captain pick decides most Showdowns. Captain the player with the best chance at multiple touchdowns, not simply the highest average.

5. Value cards like an investor

A card is worth its production, its rarity and its serial. A low serial isn't better on Sunday, but it wins ties, and ties happen in big fields. Before buying, compare price against production in the Research center. Read: what a card is worth →

6. Spend credits where they compound

  • The Core Pack (1,999 cr) is still the cheapest way to add playable cards; the Rare Pack (5,999 cr) is the floor for a guaranteed Rare. Read more →
  • Complete rewards: finishing one pays 1,000 credits, and every club set counts separately.
  • Claim the daily login (+100 cr). It adds up over a season.
  • Remember the rake: 15% comes off every pool, so a flat Double Up needs you to finish in the top half just to profit.

7. Aim for PLUS packs

The top 5% of every credit contest wins a PLUS pack of that tier, and PLUS packs can't be bought. They're the fastest route up the rarity ladder, and they're where Gold 1-of-1s turn up.
