A Reignmakers Alternative, Without the Money
DraftKings shut down Reignmakers in July 2024. If you played it, you probably miss the same things we did: owning players instead of drafting them, building a fresh lineup from your own collection every week, and chasing rarer cards to reach bigger contests. ThrownZone is built around that same loop, with one big difference: there is no money in it at all.
What happened to Reignmakers
Reignmakers sold NFL player cards as digital collectibles for real money, and ran a real-money marketplace for trading them. It closed on July 30, 2024, days after a federal court allowed a class-action lawsuit to proceed that alleged the cards were unregistered securities. Players lost the game, and the marketplace closed with it.
What ThrownZone keeps
| What you liked | In ThrownZone |
|---|---|
| Owning player cards | Every card is a numbered, one-of-a-kind object you own, like Jahmyr Gibbs, Core, 127 / 600 |
| Rarity tiers that open contests | Five tiers (Core, Rare, Elite, Legend and Hall of Fame), plus a 1-of-1 Gold of every player |
| Weekly contests on real stats | Classic (5 cards) and Showdown (4 cards, 1.5× Captain) every NFL week |
| A marketplace | The Book: public asking prices, every card's full history kept |
| Packs | Published odds on every pack, rolled on the server |
What ThrownZone changes
- No money, ever. Credits can't be bought and can't be cashed out. No deposits, no withdrawals.
- Free to start. Every new account gets 25 cards and 5,000 credits: a playable Starter lineup and four Kickoff Packs, each with a Rare-or-better card.
- Rarity never adds points. A Core and a Hall of Fame card of the same player score exactly the same. Rarity decides which room you play in, not who wins it.
- Ties go to the lowest serial number, so a low number is worth something on Sunday as well as to collectors.
- Every result is auditable. Pack rolls, scoring and settlement happen on the server, and every card and credit movement is on an append-only ledger.
Will it feel familiar?
If you know Reignmakers, yes: collect, set a lineup, climb the tiers. The difference is that a new player and a long-time collector are separated by how well they play, not by how much they spent.
